My friend and I booked Jala Homestay based on a recommendation of another friend, and it ended up being one of the highlights of our trip in Nepal. First, the food was fantastic. The best meal we had in Nepal hands down. We got a full, authentic, home cooked Newari dinner with more food than we could dream of finishing for an insanely good price. The homemade yogurt was fantastic (I got seconds lol) and the home brewed Aila (local liquor) was delicious and perfectly spiced. Normally I can’t stand strong liquor, but I enjoyed quite a few servings of Aila. I cannot stress enough how good the food was! Second, the family that owns Jala Homestay is wonderful. The son, Jabbu, is super nice and an incredible singer. He introduced us to his band and we had the pleasure of seeing them perform at the local bar. Finally, the Homestay itself is super comfortable and in a great location. It’s near the busy Asan Market, but still quiet inside the rooms. The rooms have a kitchenette and comfortable beds. Wish we had booked this place earlier in the trip.
