I initially booked Hotel Nilkantha for 3 nights but ended up extending my stay for another 3 days — all thanks to the warmth and hospitality of the owner and his family who personally manage the property. Everyone was extremely cooperative and made us feel at home throughout. The hotel is located at a walkable distance from Pashupatinath Temple, and we even walked to the airport one day — it’s that close! The owner was very helpful in guiding us and even arranged local transport when needed. He assigned a well-maintained car with a knowledgeable driver who took us around the city for 4 days. The rooms were clean, and we noticed how much effort the whole family puts in to keep the place tidy. Their in-house vegetarian restaurant serves good food, freshly prepared after taking your order. Breakfast options were limited but satisfactory. One of the best things about the place is the owner’s constant warm smile — it truly adds charm to the stay. Some helpful tips for Indian travelers: If your bank allows international transactions, you can use the PhonePe app in Nepal (via FonePe) to pay in shops and temples. It automatically converts INR to NPR at the actual rate. However, the hotel charged 3% extra for UPI payments, which was the only thing I found unclear. They also provide 24/7 hot water in bathrooms, which was a plus. Overall, we had a lovely stay and I’d highly recommend this hotel to fellow Indian travelers visiting Kathmandu.
